Mr. Brad Bonebrake

Director of Bands

 

Brad Bonebrake earned his Bachelor of Music degree with teacher certification from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1995. He earned his Master of Music in Trumpet Performance degree from Arizona State University in 1998. In addition to his administrative duties for the Summit Band, as Director of Bands, Mr. Bonebrake’s direct rehearsal responsibilities include that of the Summit Marching Band and Wind Symphony. Mr. Bonebrake also serves as assistant director for the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band and co-director of the Jazz Ensembles.

 

Prior to his positions at Summit High School, Mr. Bonebrake held teaching positions at Fossil Ridge High School in Keller, Texas, and Beck Intermediate School in Trophy Club, Texas. In addition to his public education teaching positions and freelance trumpet performances, Mr. Bonebrake has maintained a small studio of private trumpet students from several Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex campuses and has been a member of the Legend Brass Quintet for the past nine years. While attending Arizona State University, Mr. Bonebrake served as a graduate teaching assistant for Regent’s Professor David Hickman. In addition to his private studio and Brass Techniques course responsibilities, Mr. Bonebrake performed as a member of the Arizona State University Teaching Assistant Brass Quintet, as a member of the Pinnacle Brass Quintet, and as a substitute trumpet player for the Phoenix Symphony. During his two years in Tempe, Mr. Bonebrake also served as principal trumpet of the International Exchange Symphony Orchestra in Skopje, Macedonia.

 

Mr. Bonebrake and his wife of ten years, Stephanie, are active members of All Saints Lutheran Church in Arlington and have a beautiful two-year-old daughter, Reagan.

 

 

 

Mr. Steve Shadman

Associate Director of Bands

 

Steve Shadman is the newest member of the Mansfield Summit High School Band staff. He will serve as the Associate Director of Bands, directing the Wind Ensemble, assisting with the marching band and Wind Symphony, and co-teaching the Symphonic and Jazz Bands with Mr. Bonebrake. Mr. Shadman will also teach the beginning saxophone class at Cross Timbers Intermediate and assist with the bands at TA Howard Middle School.

 

Mr. Shadman holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Master of Music in Wind Band Conducting from Texas Christian University. Prior to coming to Summit, Mr. Shadman was the Director of Bands at Reed Middle School in Duncanville, TX where he coordinated the band programs at Reed Middle School and Hardin Intermediate School, and assisted with the 3rd place state finalist Duncanville High School Marching Band. Other previous positions held by Mr. Shadman include Interim Associate Director of Bands at TCU, Director of Bands at Brooks Wester Middle School in Mansfield, and Associate Director of Bands at Harwood Junior High in Bedford, TX. Mr. Shadman has been on staff with the UTA Drum Major Camp since 1997, serving as the head instructor for the past seven years. His bands have earned consistent Division I ratings at UIL Concert contest as well as Best In Class and Runner Up Best In Class awards at metroplex band festivals.

 

Mr. Shadman has a five year old daughter Kate who is the light of his life.

 

 

 

Dr. Shawn Hart

Associate Director of Band

 

Shawn Michael Hart is currently Assistant Director of Bands/ Percussion Co-Coordinator for Mansfield Summit High School in Arlington, TX. He received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and his Master of Music in Percussion Performance from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. He is currently completing his Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of North Texas in Denton, TX.

 

Along with UNT professors Mark Ford and Christopher Deane, Shawn helped in the world-premiere of Ford’s “Afta Stuba!” at the Percussive Arts Society’s 2000 Convention in Nashville, Tennessee. While at UNT, Shawn has performed with the Grammy-nominated North Texas Wind Symphony on several of its Klavier label CDs, including “Deja View,” “Soundscapes,” “Sojourns,” “Convergence,” and “WASBE Live!.” He was a featured percussion soloist for two percussion concertos on these disks, namely Michael Colgrass’ Déjà vu and David Gillingham’s Concertino for Four Percussion. He can also be heard on several volumes of the “Teaching Music Through Performance in Band” series, also recorded by the UNT Wind Symphony, under the baton of Eugene Migliaro Corporon. He has also performed with the UNT Symphony Orchestra, Las Colinas Symphony, and Garland Symphony.

 

 

 

Mrs. Nicki Neugent

Colorguard Instructor

 

Nicki Neugent grew up in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan surrounded by a musical family. At the age of nine her family moved to Abilene, Texas so her father could accept a position as the Associate Director of the 500+ member Cooper High School Band. In 1988 they moved to Bedford, TX as her father was named the new Head Director at L.D. Bell HS. While at L.D. Bell under her father’s direction, Mrs. Neugent was a member of the colorguard, a two-year Drum Major, and a three-year member. In the spring of 1994, Nicki was selected through a National audition process as one of only two high school students to be named a Yamaha Young Performing Artist.

 

Upon graduation she attended the University of North Texas to continue studying flute with Mary Karen Clardy. In 1998 she graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Music Performance with a concentration in flute. While at UNT she was a four-year member of the Wind Symphony under the direction of Eugene Corporon and a three-year member of the Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Anshel Brusilow. While in the UNT Wind Symphony, Nicki was a part of ten recording sessions for the Klavier label. She also traveled throughout the United States on concert tours with the Grammy award winning ensemble.

 

During college she performed in master classes with world-renowned flutists James Galway, Julius Baker and Ransom Wilson. Nicki was also a two-year member of the Green Brigade marching band and was President of the UNT chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota. Her honors and awards included the George Morey flute scholarship and was named as both the Outstanding Freshman and Sophomore for the College of Music.

 

After graduation, Nicki continued teaching private flute lessons throughout North and East Texas, and became an active flute clinician and adjudicator, as well as the Assistant Colorguard Director at Creekview High School. In 2003, she became the Colorguard Instructor at Creekview where her program grew from 17 to 36. While at Creekview she began a successful Winterguard program, and in only three years the guard was promoted from Regional A to Scholastic A class. In 2005 they were awarded the Scholastic AAA class Championship. Mrs. Neugent is currently the Colorguard instructor at Summit High School as well as a private flute instructor in the North Texas area. She resides in Mansfield with her husband Nathaniel, who is the new Director of Bands at Howard Middle School. They have an adorable seven-year-old son named Connor.
